Put the crown on your work at Royal Van der Leun

Jan Cornelis founded Van der Leun in 1912 with cautious electrical activities. In 1920, he registered "J.C. van der Leun" as an "electrotechnical office" in Sliedrecht, which was also his residence. One of the first tasks was replacing gas-powered street lighting with electric lighting, pulling cables through old gas pipes and supplying lamps.

In 1945, Jan Cornelis handed over the business to his two sons, Marinus and Leendert. They changed the name to Van der Leun's Technical Enterprise at the end of 1945. Soon, Van der Leun received orders for electrical installations on dredging ships.

In 1956, the company continued under the name N.V. Installatiebouw van der Leun. In 1959/1960, a new production hall was built on the newly developed industrial site Nijverwaard in Sliedrecht. This was the first building on the new site. Around this time, two employees, Mr. M. den Breejen and Mr. L. de Groot, also bought shares in the business and managed the company. This led to the departure of the Van der Leun brothers.

Van der Leun developed into a market leader in complex electrical installations. In addition to ship installations, other projects were undertaken, such as the construction of the Lagere Technische School in Sliedrecht. Van der Leun grew, and the office on Kerkstraat moved to Leeghwaterstraat in Sliedrecht.

Until the mid-1980s, Van der Leun was also the largest electrical installer in the field of dredging vessels. The last years of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s were filled with two new ship constructions. There were also many projects in wastewater treatment installations and much service work on ships from dredging companies such as Boskalis and Jan de Nul.

In 1991, Mr. M. (Marius) den Breejen, by then the sole shareholder, transferred his shares to his two sons, Bert and Martin, and retired. Bert den Breejen left the business in 1996, and Martin den Breejen managed the company alone.

In the year 2000, the properties on Leeghwaterstraat were replaced by new construction on the new industrial area Noord-Oost Kwadrant, along the A15 in Sliedrecht.

In 2005, the first steps abroad were taken. Van der Leun China was established as the first foreign entity. More followed, with the latest being Van der Leun Yachting in Spain. 100 years after the beginning, Van der Leun currently has 8 foreign branches. Currently, 300 people work at Royal Van der Leun worldwide.

100 years of craftsmanship have been rewarded. On December 4, 2020, Van der Leun received the Royal title to mark its 100th anniversary. The award was announced on April 19, 2021, symbolizing the respect, appreciation, and trust of the King.

On June 24, 2021, the official presentation of the Royal title and the introduction of the Royal logo took place, in the presence of the King's Commissioner and the Mayor.
