The atmosphere at Royal Van der Leun

What truly sets Van der Leun apart from other companies is that it’s a family business. You can really feel it in the atmosphere—it’s warm, welcoming, and approachable.

There’s also a strong focus on innovation and renewal, which makes the work even more exciting. The company aims to stay ahead of the curve and invests in young employees, so you’ll see many apprentices and interns walking around. Hopefully, they’ll follow the same path I did. That sense of teamwork and collaboration makes working here both enjoyable and rewarding.

Challenges and Projects

The work itself offers plenty of challenges. Large projects are often more complex, which I enjoy, and sometimes I get to explore completely new technologies, like 3D printing and the Scio app we’re currently developing. Right now, I’m working on the new design of the Visual Monitoring System (VMS), as well as further improvements to the Scio app. That app actually started as an internship project but quickly grew into something much bigger. Now, it’s available in both the Google Play and App Store, which is something I’m really proud of. The variety in my work keeps things interesting—one day I’m focused on a project, and the next, I’m working on something completely different, like preparing for a trade fair.

Pride, Growth, and the Future

Looking back, I’m especially proud of the new designs we developed for the PMS and AMS systems. We’re building on that foundation to eventually create our own system—one that people will instantly recognize as a Van der Leun system. Every day here is different; sometimes I work independently, and other times, I collaborate with colleagues in project teams. That variety keeps the job from ever feeling repetitive.

For me, the most rewarding part is that I genuinely enjoy my work and have great relationships with my colleagues. There’s still so much to learn and explore, as the work remains complex and challenging. We’re constantly pushing boundaries and setting the bar higher.
