Lennart
Account Manager EMS
An unpredicted start
How do you come at Royal Van der Leun as an Account Manager? For me it all started at the pub. Yes, honestly! I got to know the CEO, Martin, from my part-time job there.

I used to sell fireproof doors for ships, so I already knew the market well. One day, I was asked if I’d be interested in working for Van der Leun, and it immediately sounded like the right fit. Over the years, I’ve held several positions at Royal Van der Leun, but account manager is the role that suits me best. Building strong relationships and working with a dedicated team is what I truly enjoy.
Not Just a Number, But Genuine Appreciation
What do I love most about working at Royal Van der Leun? Without a doubt, the freedom and trust. Here, you’re not immediately penalized for making a mistake. You’re not just a number—you’re someone whose input is genuinely valued. Everyone’s door is always open, and there’s hardly any hierarchical culture to be found. That open atmosphere makes working here incredibly enjoyable. At Van der Leun, I have the space to keep developing myself. You’re given a responsibility, but how you fulfill it is up to you.
Projects That Make an Impact
Right now, I’m working on two innovative electric ferries for Curaçao and an electric container ship powered by massive batteries. How amazing is it to see something that starts as a stack of about 500 sheets of paper turn into a groundbreaking ship sailing across the world four years later? And the best part is that I’m not just involved in new projects—I also get to continue serving my loyal customers.
My biggest success so far? Without a doubt, the mega deal we secured for a large dredging vessel. It was a huge order, but of course, I didn’t do it alone. My core team and I worked hard on it together. Each of us has our own specialty, and even though we’re all very different, we complement one another perfectly. That teamwork is what allows us to accomplish great things.
Ambition, Collaboration, and Personal Growth
My ultimate goal is to become an Area Manager. I love bringing people together and working towards a shared goal. And, of course, the travel opportunities—that’s an amazing bonus! The biggest challenge remains ensuring that everything runs smoothly, both internally and externally, but that’s what keeps the job exciting.
Personal growth is the most rewarding part of my work. At Royal Van der Leun, I have every opportunity to grow and turn my ambitions into reality.
